Open yourself to the world

The OUTSIDE Project was born to bring the Hikikomori outside world phenomenon to the field of adult education.

THE PROJECT

The OUTSIDE Project was created to bring into the field of adult education an issue that has already been addressed in the school and youth sector for several years: the phenomenon of the Hikikomori, people who are usually young and most often male, and who increasingly isolate themselves from the social context, to the point of locking themselves in their homes and refusing contact with the outside world.
The need to seek solutions in the EDA sector stems from the fact that once young people leave school, it is increasingly difficult to monitor their state of mind and isolation. An inclusive adult education system must also take on the task of reaching this complex target group.

The objectives of the OUTSIDE project

Training paths

Promoting the inclusion of young adults who present characteristics of social isolation and who are at risk of becoming Hikikomori, through training paths based mainly on the key competence 'personal, social and learning to learn'.

Skills of EDA trainers

Improve the skills of EDA trainers through the use of methodologies and tools that help trainers both to recognise signs of isolation and to engage Hikikomori and those who might become Hikikomori in training experiences.

Toolkit for Inclusion

Implement a Toolkit for Inclusion, based on the creation of a new assessment tool to assess the level of isolation of the final recipients and 8 innovative training modules to facilitate their reintegration into social life.

Hikikomori Prevention Protocol

Implement a Hikikomori Prevention Protocol in adults, to raise awareness of the phenomenon throughout Europe and prevent it.

What´s Hikikomori

No more feeling uncomfortable.

Hikikomori (ひきこもり or 引きこもり literally to withdraw, to be secluded; i.e. “acute social isolation”?) is a Japanese term for the social phenomenon of secluded people who have chosen to abandon social life.
